Bring a lineman to school

Friday, October 31, 2008

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- October 15, 2008 -- From October 20 to November 9, elementary school students in the Nashville and Bowling Green, Ky., area can submit a hand-drawn picture for the chance to bring Tennessee Titans defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch to their school. The contest is open to students in kindergarten through fifth grade who submit a picture at one of 76 participating Wendy's throughout Nashville and Bowling Green. A winner from each grade will receive an autographed piece of Titans memorabilia, and the grand prize winner will receive a school fitness assembly with Vanden Bosch along with tickets and sideline passes to a Titans game. The winner's artwork will also be used as Wendy's tray liner in early 2009.

The participating Wendy's in Lewisburg is located at 290 North Ellington Pike.

"I want to show students that I wouldn't be where I am today without proper nutrition and exercise," said Vanden Bosch. "This contest will not only help educate children on the importance of 60 minutes of daily exercise and eating a variety of food from the five food groups, but also challenge their creativity."

The Southeast Dairy Association is teaming up with the Tennessee Titans and Wendy's to teach youth the importance and benefits of good nutrition and physical activity in leading healthy lives. Bookmarks, tray liners and a contest Web site will provide nutrition tips and contest details to students.

"The south is the 'Biggest Belt' and home to nine of the top 10 states with the highest rates of obesity, diabetes, hypertension and physical inactivity, and Tennessee ranks fourth in the number of overweight adolescents," said Tracy Noerper, registered dietitian with the Southeast Dairy Association. "Kyle Vanden Bosch and the Titans team are great role models for Tennessee youth. Together with Wendy's, we are helping kids make health a priority and learn the importance of naturally nutrient rich foods such as low fat and non fat dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains."

To enter the contest or for more information, visit www.southeastdairy.org for the entry and artwork form. Students will receive a free Kid's Meal™ with milk when submitting the form at participating Wendy's.
