The search for a man missing since Halloween ended last week when authorities recovered his body at the Duck River near the Marshall County line.
The remains of Randy Marbry, 26, of Bedford County were found Nov. 18. On Oct. 31, Marbry was on a trail ride along the banks of the Duck River near Halls Mill.
Marbry was familiar with trail riding but the horse he was riding was not, Bedford County Sheriff Randall Boyce said. Marbry's mother heard her son take the horse down to the river, but she didn't follow him.
She called for her son but heard no response, Boyce said. Because she heard the horse splashing in the river, Marbry's mother went home, Boyce said. She wasn't concerned when he didn't come home because previously he'd ridden off without returning for several days.
On Nov. 2, someone paddling a canoe found the horse, so a search was begun.
Officials assumed Marbry took the horse into deep water. His remains were found on a gravel bar.
