The Cornersville Bulldogs came up with a big 54-33 road win at Santa Fe Friday night to stay within striking distance of the number four spot in District 11-A.
The Bulldogs jumped all over the Wildcats from the tip, doubling up the score in the first two quarters to lead 30-15 at halftime.
The road Dawgs kept up the pressure in the second half, taking a comfortable ride home with the twenty-one point win.
Joseph Darnell and Garrett Stiles combined for 31 points to continue their season long offensive output for CHS head coach Adrian Wilson. Josh Pope had 13 points, including one three-pointer, Brent Pope netted 6, and Flint Davis and Mike Lovett scored 2 each.
Cornersville (11-10, 3-5) can gain some serious ground in the standings this week, hosting Columbia Academy (10-9, 6-1) on Tuesday and Richland (11-7, 5-3) on Friday night.
Lady Bulldogs take a step back
After taking over first place with four straight district wins, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs took a step back into second place, losing 54-45 at Santa Fe Friday night.
Cornersville (16-5, 6-2) held a comfortable 25-17 at the end of the first half, but collapsed in the second half, outscored by Santa Fe 18-15 in the third period and 19-5 in the pivotal fourth period.
Sara Nelms led Cornersville with 13 points, Sarah King scored 10, Haley Fagan 6, Courtney Cook and Makenzie Hopkins had 5 apiece, Morgan Carroll 3, Abbey Holder 2, and Kristin Fagan 1.
