The Cornersville Bulldogs had the unenviable task of traveling to Huntland for a first round District 11-A game, but head coach Adrian Wilson had the Dawgs ready for the road trip, winning 51-40 and in the process secured at least one game in the Region 6-A Tournament to be held on their home floor in Cornersville next week.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 9-2 lead in a low scoring first period and held the Hornets in check in the second quarter to lead 20-9 at the half.
Cornersville outscored the Hornets 11-10 in the third period and held onto the lead throughout the fourth quarter even though they were outscored by Huntland 21-20 in the final eight minutes.
The Bulldogs only had four players in the scoring column with Brent Pope leading the way with 16 points. Josh Pope was next with 13 points, including three treys. Garrett Stiles scored 12 in the contest and Joseph Darnell finished with 10.
The Bulldogs (14-13) face an even bigger task when they take on the number four ranked Culleoka Warriors (26-2) tonight at 7:30 at Richland.
In the two meetings between the Cornersville and Culleoka this season, the Warriors have outscored the Bulldogs 98-42.
