Paij B. Lintz, of Lewisburg, recently received the Muriel Tomlinson Award during the 45th annual Honors Day at the University of Tennessee at Martin. The award is presented annually to an outstanding foreign language student who is finishing his or her junior or senior year.

Kindergarten registration for the 2009-2010 school year in the Marshall County School System will be held Monday, May 11. Lewisburg students who plan to attend Oak Grove, Westhills, or Marshall Elementary will register at the Marshall County Board of Education at 700 Jones Circle in Lewisburg from 1 to 3 p.m. Cornersville students will register at Cornersville Elementary School and Chapel Hill students will register at Chapel Hill Elementary School between the hours of 1 and 3 p.m. Parents should bring the following documents to registration with them: immunization record, birth certificate (official copy; not mother's copy), child's social security card, current physical examination, and proof of Marshall County residency.

The Mooresville Volunteer Fire Department is beginning a door-to-door campaign. Supporters can receive a family portrait or a kids session from Olan Mills. All donations are greatly appreciated. Call chief Jimmy Flowers (993-8925) for more information.

The Lewisburg Parks & Recreation Department is hosting the Ming and Roger Brown Memorial Tennis Tournament Memorial Day weekend at the Lewisburg Recreation Center. The tournament benefits the Marshall County High School and Lewisburg Middle School teams. The youth division will be played Saturday, May 23, and the adult division will be played Monday, May 25. The 5th Annual Nine and Dine has been rescheduled for Friday, May 8, at Saddle Creek Golf Club starting at 3 p.m. Call the Chamber of Commerce at 359-3863 for more information. If, once again, the weather prevents the event from taking place, another date will be set.

Decoration Day will be held this weekend at Beechwood Cemetery in Cornersville. There will be someone at the gate collecting donations from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday; from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The Chapel Hill TSA Soccer League is having signups for fall at Henry Horton State Park from 9 a.m. to noon on May 9 and 16.

Spencer's S&D will host free music at Cornersville City Park Saturday, May 9, from 1 to 8 p.m. Rain location: Lewis Chapel, located behind Cornersville City Park, Cornersville United Methodist Church.

A Relay for Life Charity Auction will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at the Lewisburg Recreation Center. It will feature a 2008 Titans autographed football, a Copley guitar signed by Alan Jackson and Kenny Chesney, plus many other great items.

A singing will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ on Fayetteville Highway.

The Marshall County Solid Waste Committee will host an open house at the Solid Waste Office, Hardison Office Annex, 230 College Street, Lewisburg, at 9 a.m. Monday, May 11.

AARP # 5249 will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 11, in the Parlor of First United Methodist Church. The speaker will be Dr. Jeff Jordan, local optometrist. This should be of special interest to Seniors.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 11, at Rock Creek Park in observance of Police Memorial Week to commemorate law enforcement officers, past and present.

A Share Our Strength Great American Bake Sale, part of a national campaign to end childhood hunger, will be held at the Lewisburg Wal-Mart, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 16. All funds raised come back into the community to help hungry children.

A decoration will be held at Palmetto Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. May 16 -- in case of rain, the event will be held at Farmington United Methodist Church. Donations can be brought or mailed to Janet Manire, 1513 Jenny Lynn Drive, Lewisburg.

The Shelbyville Church Of God Of Prophecy on West Lane Street will be holding its monthly supper and singing on Saturday, May 16. Supper begins at 5 p.m. All proceeds go toward the upkeep of the church. Guest singers will be "The Mary Bean Singers," featuring Mary Shelton.
