Several Marshall County residents were among students who received degrees from the University of Tennessee at Martin during the recent spring commencement held in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on the UT Martin campus.

The students receiving undergraduate degrees were: Chapel Hill -- Rebecca Louise Moses, Julie Elizabeth Jones, Vanessa Nicole Hitchcock, Amanda L. Cherry; Cornersville -- Deanna Dawn Barlar; Lewisburg -- Rachel Dolline Williams. Chapel Hill's Cody Leigh McCone received a graduate degree.

The Lewisburg Parks & Recreation Department is hosting the Ming and Roger Brown Memorial Tennis Tournament Memorial Day weekend at the Lewisburg Recreation Center. The tournament benefits the Marshall County High School and Lewisburg Middle School teams. The youth division will be played Saturday, May 23, and the adult division will be played Monday, May 25. Marshall County Memorial Library is having its Summer Reading Program this summer. It begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 4, and runs every Thursday through July 16.

Blood pressure screenings will be held at 11 a.m. May 24 and 31 at the Senior Citizens Center.


A blood drive will be held from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at Church Street Church of Christ, 305 W. Church St., Lewisburg.

The Marshall County Emergency Communications District Board of Directors will have their regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Emergency Operations Center, 230 College St., Lewisburg (Hardison Annex Building).

The Tennessee Voices Support Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at First Assembly of God on Ellington Parkway. The support group is for children with emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues no matter the diagnosis. For more information, call Kim Young at 931-560-3088.

Marshall County Law Enforcement Committee will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Sheriff's Office.

The Republican Women of Marshall County will have their regular meeting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 21, at First Commerce Bank.

The Lewisburg American Legion Post 39 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church Family Life Center.

Marshall Medical Center will provide school sports physicals to high school athletes in Marshall County as a free public service. The event will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at Marshall County High School.


The Lewisburg Ole Time Bluegrass Festival will be held May 22 and 23 on Robin Hood Road in Lewisburg from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day. Call 359-0833 for more information.

The last day of school in the Marshall County School System will be Friday, May 22. This will be an abbreviated day and there will be no bus service.

There will be a cleanup day starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Beechwood Cemetery.


The Town of Chapel Hill City Offices, City Hall in Cornersville and the Marshall County Board of Public Utilities will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. The offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 26.


The Lewisburg Gas Department will hold its regular meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at 505 N. Ellington Pkwy.

The Community Development Board of the City of Lewisburg will hold its regular monthly meeting at noon Tuesday, May 26, at Lewisburg City Hall.

A special meeting of the Mayor and Lewisburg City Council is set for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at Lewisburg City Hall.

The Lewisburg Housing Authority's monthly Meeting of Commissioners will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at the George W. Turner Building, 741 Silver Street.

Due to Marshall County athletic teams being in Spring Fling, the Board of Education's Policy Committee meeting has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the Central Office.

The Marshall County Veterans Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Hardison Office Annex, 230 College St., Lewisburg.


The Grief Support Group will have a potluck meeting at 6 p.m. Friday, May 29, at Westvue Church of Christ, Lewisburg.

June 1

The Solid Waste Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 1, in Room 2212 of the Courthouse Annex, Lewisburg.


The Marshall County School System will hold new student registration from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 2. This is for students who were not enrolled in Marshall County Schools last year. Students who are transferring from Lewisburg to Cornersville or Chapel Hill, or the opposite, will also need to register.
