Dennis Ferguson Harris, 88, of the Holts Corner Community of Marshall County, died Friday, July 24, 2009.
Mr. Harris was a native of Marshall County. He was a direct descendent of Joseph Brittain, an early settler. He attended Harding College and graduated from Tennessee Tech University, Cookeville. Mr. Harris worked for many years as a chemist for Tennessee Coal and Iron in Birmingham, Ala. He then returned to Marshall County where he spent the rest of his life as a dairy farmer. He was a member of the Riggs Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Odie Frank and Dixie Lee Ferguson Harris; sisters, Cornelia Harris Lovell and Mary Frances Harris Stewart; brother, William Douglas Harris; and grandson, Christopher Dean Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Frances Case Harris of Holts Corner; sons, Dr. Dennis Gregory (Pam) Harris of Holts Corner and Dr. Charles Edward (Peggy) Harris of Valley, Ala.; two granddaughters, Kimberly Harris Brown and Dr. Kerri Harris Teague; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, July 27, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Tom Holland officiating, followed by burial in Swanson Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Embree Blackwell Jr., Charles Blackwell, Ronnie Trout, John Thomas Patillo, Josh Teague, Justin Brown, Dylan White, Austin Teague, Phil Lovell, and Billy Lovell.
