Obituary: Jerry D. Wilson Sr.

Jerry D. "Da" Wilson Sr., 81, of College Grove, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at his residence after an extended illness.

Mr. Wilson was a native of Rutherford County and was a retired dairy and cattle farmer. He was a member of the College Grove United Methodist Church, Crusaders Sunday School Class, Owen Hill Masonic Lodge #172, Nashville Scottish Rite, Al Menah Shrine, former member of the College Grove Lions Club and College Grove High School Class of 1947.

He was preceded in death by parents, William Hartwell Wilson and Alma Ozburn Wilson; stepfather, Robert Eudailey Wilson; son, Joe Hartwell Wilson; and brother, William Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nell Shaw Wilson of College Grove; sons, Jerry D. (Cheryl) Wilson Jr. of Eagleville and James Shaw (Lisa) Wilson of Franklin; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; cousin, Judy Wilson Barnhill; sisters-in-law, Betty O. Wilson, Elynor Bellenfant, and Jimmye Lou Smith; and caregivers, Lisa Reed and Willowbrook Home Health Care and Hospice.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the College Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Coy and Rev. Eric Limbo officiating, followed by burial in College Grove Cemetery.

The active pallbearers were Cale, Jacob, JoJo, and Jared Wilson, Mike Wilson and Lonnie Leathers.

The honorary pallbearers were Crusaders Sunday School Class of College Grove United Methodist Church, Jim Smithson, Bob Taylor, Maurice Armstrong, Larry Barnhill, Jack Wilson, Dustin Miller, Keith Bilbrey, Richard Layhew Jr., Donald Smith, Jerre Fly III, George Barnes, Charlie Warner, Frank Smith Jr., Embree Blackwell, Billy Knight, Jimmy Lillard, Howard Pitts, Graham Johnson, Debbie and Allen White, Jimmy Baker, Bob Collins, Butch Nowlin, Lanny Turner, Briggs Smith, Kenneth Morgan, George Graham Jr., and Tab Ballou.
