James McDuff Thomas, 67, of Athens, Ala., formerly of Lewisburg, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, in Maury Regional Hospital.
Mr. Thomas was a native of Bedford County. He was a farmer and a member of the Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.T. and Gladys Wilson Thomas, and wife, Dorothy Thomas.
He is survived by his daughter, Carrie Thomas Smith of Athens, Ala.; stepdaughters, Edith Watkins of Lewisburg and Mary Weldon of Columbia; brothers, Robert Wilson of Leighton, Ala., Ralph Thomas of Shelbyville, and Jeff Jennings of Unionville; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Oct. 12, from the chapel of London Funeral Home with Bill Mathis and Terry Mills officiating, followed by burial in Philadelphia Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Timothy Steeples, Eddie Paul May, Erica Steeples, Kayla May, Michael Weldon, and Geoffrey Taylor.
