James Tate, 75, of Fayetteville, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Tate was a native of Marshall County. He was a retired supervisor at Moon's Pencil Company, and served as an elder at the Cyruston Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie L. and Judy Jewell Hobby Tate; sisters, Francis McClenny, Dora Lou Johnson, and Ruby Guthry; brother, Willie Lavoy Tate; and three grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Emily Spray Tate of Fayetteville; children, James Edward "Eddie" (Sheree) Tate of Lewisburg, Priscilla (Bennie) Brewer of McBurg, Myra (David) Carrol of Cornersville, and Danny (Judy) Tate of Lewisburg; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Oct. 19, from the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Hudgins officiating, followed by burial in Wrights Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Mr. Tate's grandsons, Curtis Tate, Jeremy Brewer, Zach Brewer, Josh Mitchell, and Ryan Walker, along with Steven Owen, Sean Wood, and Daniel Talley.
