Band of Blue takes top honors in Nashville competition

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

The Rocket Band of Blue was on the road again, traveling to Glencliff High School in Nashville Saturday to compete in the 19th Annual Colt Classic.

The band has continually strived to do their best this season by practicing hard and giving it all they have in every performance. With the State Competition just two weeks away, the band is showing just how strong they are once again this year. The band has overcome weeks of rain, mud, and cloudy skies to bring home multiple awards to Forrest High School including two sweepstakes trophies.

Glencliff was host to over 20 bands from around Middle Tennessee. The Band of Blue marched onto the field at 5:30 and performed their show before the spectators. The sounds of "A New World" filled the stadium as the band played with pride and skill. Marching off of the field, the band knew that they had performed their show the best that they could.

After the exhibition performance of the Glencliff High School Marching Band, the band representatives from the performing bands lined up on the field for the awards ceremony.

The Band received superior ratings from all of the judges in music, general effects, marching, color guard, percussion and field commanders. The Rocket Band of Blue then received awards for Best in Class Field Commanders, Color Guard, and Percussion. The Band took Best in Class Band award for the Silver Class. As the final awards were being announced, the Rocket Band of Blue members had their hopes high for a victory. The announcer paused as he announced the Gold/Silver/Bronze Division Sweepstakes winner and finally said "Forrest".

The Band members went wild! The band pulled off another victory against the larger Division 2 bands. Congratulations to the band for their 3rd Sweepstakes Victory.

The Band travels to Memphis this coming weekend to perform in the Liberty Bowl in the Bandmasters Championship. Good Luck to the Band.
