Obituary: Bessie Lynch Underwood
Bessie Lynch Underwood, 76, of College Grove, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at her residence after an extended illness.
Mrs. Underwood was a native of Bedford County. She retired from Georgia Boot Company of Franklin after 32 years of service and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of College Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hiram Edgar Lee and Mary Ella Davis Lynch; first husband, William E. Rollins; son, Glenn Edward Rollins; grandson, Thomas Nathan Jackson; son-in-law, George Allen Pence Sr.; and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Ollie B. Underwood of College Grove; daughters, Gail Rollins (John) Sanford and Sheila Rollins (Don) Swartz, all of College Grove, Nancy Underwood Pence Harper of the Rover Community, Corrine (James Robert) Walden and Juanita Underwood (Roy) Davenport, all of Murfreesboro; sisters, Mabel Cherry of Huntsville and Gracie Allen of Shelbyville; brothers, Edgar Lee Lynch Jr. of College Grove, and Thomas Howard Lynch and William Cooper Lynch, both of Unionville; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 15, at Lawrence Funeral Home, followed by burial in Wheeler Cemetery near Chapel Hill.
The pallbearers were Chris Sanford, George Allen Pence Jr., Brandon Jackson, David York, Jerry Lynch, and Thomas Nathan Jackson, in spirit.
The honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Underwood's granddaughters, with Ryan Jackson, Andrew Sanford, Alma Sneed, and Meloney Herrington.
