Emily Louise Goad Derryberry Chaffin, 82, of Columbia, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at NHC Columbia.
Mrs. Chaffin was a native of Maury County. She graduated from Jones High School in Lynnville, and retired from the Tennessee Department of Safety. She also worked as a nurse's aide at Maury Regional Medical Center and for Dr. Carl Gardner and Dr. William Fuqua. At age 52, Mrs. Chaffin soloed in her first airplane. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Josh and Juanita Edmiston Goad; daughter, Sharon Tyler; and sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Jim Hanson.
She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Chaffee of Columbia; sons, Steve (Tammy) Derryberry of Caney Springs and Andy (Betty) Derryberry of Flint, Mich.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 8, from the chapel of Williams Funeral Home with Rev. John Rushing, Rev. Frank Smith and Murray Derryberry officiating, followed by burial in Arlington Cemetery.
The pallbearers were her son, Andy Derryberry; grandsons, Lee, Tanner, and Brian Derryberry; nephews, Murray, Troy, and Guy Derryberry; and friend, Jerry Phares.
The honorary pallbearers were Wayne Tomlin, Jim Lester, Everett Parton, Margie Boshers, Jean Phares, and members of the Lead On Sunday School Class of Northside Baptist Church.
