Mildred Virginia Van Horn, 84, of Cornersville, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Van Horn was a native of Cornersville. She was a 1946 graduate of Cornersville High School, and graduated from Martin Junior College in 1948 and magna cum laude from Birmingham Southern College in 1950. She obtained a master's degree from George Peabody College for Teachers in 1965.
Mrs. Van Horn taught math at Cornersville High School from 1961 until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the Cornersville Garden Club, Marshall County Retired Teachers Association, and Cornersville United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women's Mission group. She held many offices in each of these organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernie E. and Kate McAteer Shaw.
She has no immediate survivors.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, from the chapel of Cornersville Funeral Home, followed by burial in Beechwood Cemetery.
Preachers were Ray Hartman and Wayne Simmons. Pallbearers were Randy Curtis, Danny Hanson, Freddie Capps, Spencer Mitchell, Ronnie Osteen and Troy Crowell
