Obituary: Zelma Ruth Thompson

Zelma Ruth Thompson, 84, of Lewisburg, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, in Marshall Medical Center.

Mrs. Thompson was a native of Marshall County. She was retired from Genesco Corporation in Chapel Hill and was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Albert and Mamie Louise Jones Defoe; husband, Sammie Lee Thompson; brother, Loyd Defoe, and twin brother, Bill Defoe; and sisters, Margarette Cashion and Cora Winnett.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Thompson, and sister, Joyce Bone, both of Lewisburg; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 23, from the chapel of London Funeral Home, followed by burial in Short Cemetery in the Spring Place Community.
