The dark horse, long-shot candidate for sheriff of Marshal County has withdrawn from the race, he said in a Wednesday morning e-mail.
Patrick Ryan, 25, a Radio Shack clerk at the store in Columbia and - according to the president of a security company - a former on-call guard, had become the subject of questions about his residency and vehicle registration.
"I am not gonna file my petition," Ryan said in his e-mail. "All I wanted was to run a good clean race but it just doesn't seem like its gonna be possible and is causing me to many problems at work and with other things.
"Besides that," Ryan concluded, "I am gonna be moving again."
In a Wednesday night e-mail some 14 hours later, Ryan wrote: "I would like to make an apology to Tri-State Security to be printed for releasing unauthorized information to the public in an earlier interview about the post I worked on. I have not worked for Tri-State since December of 2009 it was not my intention to give false information about working for the company. I was under the impression that I was still employed by the company to fill in as needed but there was a misunderstanding."
