Catalpa news

Hello again!

Let me start off with an apology. I had the date wrong for the singing at Odd Fellows Hall. I should have written March 19, instead of March 12. I'm sorry if I caused you a trip for nothing. If you go this Friday night you will be glad you did.

Sympathy is extended to Joe Bean and family in the death of his mother, Mrs. Flossie Bean. She passed away Saturday in Fayetteville and was buried Sunday in Wright Cemetery. A large crowd attended the graveside service. Those from Catalpa attending were Bro. Carpenter and Alice, Larry and Joanne Smith, Tony and Melissa Williams, Gary and June Douglas, and Meriel and Juanita Pack.

From all reports, the benefit for Zac Amos was a huge success on Saturday night. A large crowd was in attendance and around $18,000 was made. Zac is waiting for a bone marrow transplant that will take place in about three weeks. A match has been found. Best wishes for a complete recovery.

A large crowd attended the Pickin'n'Grinnin' Saturday night. We had a house full of musicians as well as a bunch of listeners.

Judy Dirting had her surgery on Monday, but didn't feel like coming to church on Sunday. She was still having a lot of pain. Hope she soon feels better.

Alice Pack and Frances Dunivan visited Larry Fullerton and Becky Gleghorn at their homes on Sunday afternoon. They are both fighting cancer. Our prayers are with them both.

Connie and Jim Davidson, Peyton and Stephen Clark, and Sheila, Kami and Shawnee Upchurch were our visitors Saturday. They came to do some projects that us old folks needed help doing. We enjoyed having them. Wish they could come more often. The Davidsons live at Dickson.

The Genesco reunion is coming up April 17. It will again be held at the Rec Center in Lewisburg. All former employees are urged to make plans to attend. We lose a lot of fellow employees during the year and the group gets smaller each year. Bring a dish or two and plan to join us this year. I never worked there, but Meriel worked there for 24 and a half years, and I enjoy seeing everyone that he worked with. Any questions? Give Mr. Eugene Parsons a call at 359-5175. We will meet about 10:30 a.m. to talk and eat at 11:30 a.m. Hope to see you then.

Remember Friends and Family Day at Catalpa on Sunday, March 21. Everyone is invited to join us for Sunday School at 10:30 a.m. and preaching at 11 a.m. A potluck dinner will be served in the fellowship hall.

I'll close for this week. Hope to see you next week at this same place.

Discouragement and Dreams

So many things in the line of duty

Drain us of effort and leave us no beauty,

And the dust of the soul grows thick and unswept,

The spirit is drenched in tears unwept.

But just as we fall beside the road,

Discouraged with life and bowed down with our load,

We lift our eyes and what seems a dead end

Is the street of dreams where we meet a friend.
