Scholarships from the Marshall County Education Association and the Marshall County Retired Teachers Association are on offer for upcoming college juniors and seniors who are graduates of Marshall County high schools, are majoring in education, and plan to pursue a career in teaching. Applications are available at the guidance offices of all three high schools. Deadlines for application are April 26 and May 7, 2010.

The Marshall County Soil Conservation District will be holding its annual tree giveaway this spring. Loblolly pine and pecan trees will be available. If you are interested in receiving free trees, please contact the District at 359-6268. You will be notified when to pick up the trees.

The Marshall County Soil Conservation District is hosting the Annual Mid-TN District Employee Daylily Fundraiser. The four varieties offered this year are: Stella de Oro (golden rebloomer), Chicago Apache (bright red 6" bloom), Kwanzo (double to triple 5" orange bloom), and Strawberry Candy (pink and rose 4" bloom). "A Parent's Introduction to Special Education," a workshop for parents of children who are in special education or might need special education, will be held Thursday, April 6, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Marshall County Development Center. The Senior Citizens covered-dish luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 19, at the Senior Citizens Center, 230 College St., Lewisburg. The public is welcome.

The Giles County Gospel Music Association will hold their annual convention at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 19, and Saturday, March 20, at the Giles County High School auditorium. Admission and parking are free, and concessions will be available. Featured groups will be Evening Praise and The Hogan Family (Friday) and The Kellys and Compassion (Saturday). The 2nd Annual Blooming Arts Festival, which showcases educational events and interactive exhibitions, will take place in Linden, Tenn. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 20. There will be fine arts, crafts, musical performances and food. A trolley will travel back and forth between the Linden Festival and the Buffalo River SpringFest in Lobelville.
