Noon Thursday is the deadline for candidates to withdraw their petitions from the Marshall County Election Commission to prevent their names from being printed on the ballot in the Aug. 5 elections.
If a candidate who has filed a petition and who was qualified as having at least 25 signatures from locally registered voters and who has decided against running for office will have their names on the ballot unless they withdraw.
A wide slate of candidates has emerged for races including those for sheriff, county mayor and the Marshall County Commission. Other races include those for county clerk and register of deeds. There's also a race for members of the Chapel Hill Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
