James Carey "Karo" McCollum, 69, of Rogersville, Ala., died Thursday, April 8, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. McCollum was a retired business owner, carpenter/contractor who could build, create, and repair virtually anything with the extraordinary talents God had blessed upon him. He loved his alma mater, Cornersville School, and his nickname, Karo. He was a talented musician and songwriter with a great love of family, the outdoors, and his cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Denver McCollum and Lillian Haislip McCollum of Lewisburg.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Virginia Endsley McCollum; son, James Carey (Kim) McCollum II; daughters, Kathy McCollum Rios and Lessie McNutt (Scott) Shimer, all of Rogersville, Ala.; brother, Larry (Faylene) McCollum of Lewisburg; sister, Barbara Turner of Pulaski; nine grandchildren, Brooke McCollum, Kayla McCollum, James Dean McCollum, Will McNutt, Wade McNutt, Brock Shimer, Kelley (Jimmy) Earp, all of Rogersville, Korey (Stacey) Watts of Hillsboro, Ore., and Derek Rios of Guam; four great-grandchildren: Wyatt Earp, Peyton Earp, and Marshall Earp, all of Rogersville, and Atreyu Watts of Oregon; and special nephews, nieces and friends.
His memorial service was held on Saturday, April 10, at First Church of the Nazarene, Rogersville, Ala.
There will be graveside services when Mr. McCollum's ashes are placed in state at Short Cemetery, Cornersville, at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2.
