Charlie Clay "Yark" Rogers Jr., 85, of Normandy, formerly of the Wheel Community, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the Life Care Center of Tullahoma after an extended illness.
Mr. Rogers was a native of Bedford County. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a long-time member of the Bedford County Board of Commissioners, and owned and operated the Rogers Grocery in Wheel for many years. Mr. Rogers was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Clay Rogers Sr. and Ethel Neill Rogers.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ada Vera Houston Rogers; children, Charlie Clay (Micki) Rogers III of Winchester, Beth (Butch) Duke of Manchester, and Dennis Rogers of Lynchburg; sister, Isabella (Harold) Skidmore of Smyrna; grandchildren, Jamie Birchill, Shelby Rogers, Zachary Rogers, Kevin Duke, J.B. Ratcliffe, Brandom Gerdom, and Brad Cates; and great-grandchildren, Morgan Ratcliffe, Matthew Ratcliffe, Alyssa Birchill, and Tyler Birchill.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 22, at the Shiloh United Methodist Church in Wheel with Pastor David Rash officiating, followed by burial in the Wheel Cemetery.
