James W. Connelly, 88, of Chapel Hill, formerly of Maury County, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, in Lewisburg.
Mr. Connelly was born in Maury County and was a son of the late William O'Neal and Maggie Jones Connelly. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy. Mr. Connelly was a farmer and was also a retired crane operator, having retired in 1984 from Union Carbide Company of Columbia. He was a member and deacon at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Marshall County.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorene Lunn Connelly, who died in 1981; and by two brothers, Ray and Vance Connelly; two sons-in-law, Mark Cheek and Jeff Mathews; and a grandson, Adam Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Connelly of Chapel Hill; daughters, Carol (James) Helton, Celia (Ron) Anderson and Sylvia Mathews, all of Chapel Hill, and LeAnn Baker, Teresea (Kenny) Moore, and Amy (Doug) Richardson, all of Columbia; sons, Tommy (Debbie) Elliott and Jimmy (Kim) Elliott, both of Columbia; sister, Helen (John) Lynn, and brother, Hubert Connelly, both of Columbia; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, May 21, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Yerkes officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery in Maury County.
Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Deacons of Bethlehem Baptist Church, retirees of Union Carbide Company of Columbia, nephews, and Sam Moses will serve as honorary pallbearers.
