Lt. Col. Harold Dean Heath, of Harriman, Tenn., died Friday, May 28, 2010, at his son's home in Cornersville.
Mr. Heath was a native of Morgan County, Tenn., and son of the late James Engram Sr. and Mollie Barnes Heath. He was a graduate of Harriman High School in Harriman and Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville. He served his country in the Army, retiring after 20 years of service. He served two tours in Vietnam with the Army Special Forces and served, also, with the National Security Agency. He served as Regional ROTC Commander and ROTC Instructor at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was a recipient of the Legion of Merit.
He is survived by one son, Jack Heath of Cornersville; one brother, James Heath of Kingston; three sisters, Iva Despontes of Memphis, Ruth Tratt of Wisconsin, and Jane Fuff of Kingston; two nieces, Leanne Smith of Greenville and Judy Kerr of Wisconsin; and two nephews, Eric and Phil Fillmore of Harriman.
Private graveside services were conducted Tuesday, June 1, at New Hope Cemetery at Ostella with full military honors.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 6, from the First Christian Church on Morgan Street in Harriman, Tenn.
Cornersville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
