Carlton Ellis, 77, of Chapel Hill, died Saturday, May 29, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Ellis was born in Robertson County, and was a son of the late George F. and Bertha Farmer Ellis. Mr. Ellis served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and returned home to be employed by Durango Boot Company from which he retired after 30+ years of service. He was a member of the Chapel Hill Community Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Odell Ellis, Chester Ellis, Odis Ellis, Robert Ellis, Glyndon Ellis, Jimmy Ellis, and W.T. Ellis; and sisters, Virginia Walker and Annie Mae Farmer.
Mr. Ellis is survived by his wife of 50 Years, Joyce Ellis of Chapel Hill; daughters, Cindy Thornhill of Lewisburg, Stacy (Brian) Pearson of Chapel Hill, and Pam Ellis of Nashville; sisters, Frances Adams, Bernice (Odell) Burney, Ruby (Bob) Patton, Evelyn (Ervin) Dowlen; brother, George E.(Jean) Ellis; grandchildren Betsy (Eric) Gentry, Heath (Brianna) Thornhill, Andrew Thornhill, Shelby and Ethan Bramblett, Kera and Chappell Ledford; and great-grandchildren, Brayden and Brooklyn Gentry, and Gavin and Kaiden Thornhill.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 2, from the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Tim McGehee officiating. Burial followed in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.
Brian Pearson, Eric Gentry, Heath Thornhill, Andrew Thornhill, Ethan Bramblett and Brayden Gentry served as pallbearers.
