Pay phones may change at jail

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Bids were called, opened and considered and now the chairman of Marshall County's Law Enforcement Committee is recommending a business in Williamson County to install and manage pay phones at the county jail.

Securus Technologies of Franklin, Tenn. is offering a larger share of the revenue from pay phone calls than the current vendor of that service, Global Technologies Solutions of Huntsville, Ala., and so Commissioner Scottie Poarch is recommending the change.

He's doing so without a vote by the Law Enforcement Committee because there was no quorum when the panel met on Thursday. Commissioners can sponsor resolutions without a committee vote.

"We had three bids," Poarch said. "Two didn't show up. The one who did has the better price. Current vendor didn't show up."

The value of the revenue to the county was not immediately available.
