Lamar Tillery, 71, of Columbia, died Thursday, June 17, 2010, at his home in Columbia.
Mr. Tillery was born in Vinemont, Ala. and was a son of the late Sharon William and Iola Virginia DeMonia Tillery. He served in the United States Air Force, was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and was a member of the Baptist Church. In 1994, Mr. Tillery retired after more than 30 years as a Greyhound bus driver. During his years with Greyhound, he received many awards including the 30-year safe driving award. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Chance who died in March 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Tillery of Columbia; daughter, Kathy Leonard of Chapel Hill; son, Brant (Cydni) Tillery of Tulsa, Okla.; son-in-law, Tim Chance of Columbia; sister, Connie (Don) Sykes of Vinemont, Ala.; grandchildren, Brittany Hargrove, Dane Leonard and Blake Leonard, all of Chapel Hill, Anna Kate, Jackson and Caroline Chance, all of Columbia, and Sayre, Sutherlin and Sheridian Tillery, all of Tulsa; great-grandchild, Cait Hargrove; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 21, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Bill Preston officiating.
