Percy McDill Rhea Sr., 87, of Roanoke, Va. and Lewisburg, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 29, 2010.
Mr. Rhea was a native of Fayetteville, and son of the late Felix Shelton Rhea and Lillie McDill Rhea. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He owned and operated Rhea's Shoe Store for 48 1/2 years on the square in Lewisburg. He was a member of the Lewisburg First Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ramona Rochell Rhea; son, Percy McDill Rhea Jr.; two brothers, Lawrence Rhea and Wilbur Rhea; and sister, Katrina Rhea.
His son, Dr. Randall Rochell Rhea of Roanoke, Va.; sister-in-law, Lois R. Ingram; and numerous nieces and nephews survive him.
A memorial service followed by visitation was held Thursday, July 1, in the chapel of the Second Presbyterian Church in Roanoke, with L. Gerald Carter CLP officiating.
Oakey's Roanoke Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 3, from the First Presbyterian Church of Lewisburg with burial to follow in Lone Oak Cemetery.
The family will be at the church from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour for visitation.
