Are conservatives more patriotic than liberals? Merely ask the question and liberals come unhinged. 'How dare you question my patriotism?' they ask. However, when one delves into the question there is little doubt that the America-haters in this country are primarily on the left.
Think about it for a moment. Those who bash America are the Michael Moores of the world. They're liberals, all of them.
A recent USA Today/Gallup poll demonstrated exactly what I've been saying for years. Conservatives are, by and large, more patriotic than liberals. In the Gallup poll, conservatives considered themselves to be "extremely patriotic" at more than double the rate of liberals -- 48 percent to 19 percent. It was an even bigger spread when broken down by Republicans and Democrats -- 52 percent to 20 percent.
When you delve into the data you find that liberals are 7 times more likely than conservatives to classify themselves as "not especially patriotic." In the same poll they found no Republicans who considered themselves "not especially patriotic" as opposed to 11 percent of Democrats.
Let me make one point perfectly clear. That is not to say that all Democrats and all liberals are unpatriotic. It's simply to point out the obvious: the vast majority of America-haters are on the left.
The Progressive, a left-wing magazine that's been around since 1909, trots out each Fourth of July a piece written by the late socialist Howard Zinn that he wrote in 2006. The title is "Put Away the Flags." Zinn said, "we would do well to renounce nationalism and all its symbols: its flags, its pledges of allegiance, its anthems, its insistence in song that God must single out America to bless." That should tell you all you need to know. The "progressive" movement is anti-capitalist and anti-American.
What's interesting is more progressives tend to hate the country but love big government. Conversely, more conservatives are wary of big government but love the country.
Let's face it. Progressives are ashamed of America. They're ashamed of all we have achieved as a country. They think we did it all to the detriment of the rest of the world when just the opposite is true.
America is not perfect. No conservative believes that it is. What we believe is that in the long measure of time and deeds the positives of America far outweigh the negatives. Zinn believed we "used" the attack on Pearl Harbor to justify dropping the bomb on Japan. He believed we "used" the attacks of 9/11 to justify killing thousands in Afghanistan. These people have no concept of defending our country. They believe we are always the aggressors, we are always the imperialists, we are always wrong.
The country in the hands of these people is a very dangerous thing but that's where we are. They think they have some kind of mandate but does the rest of the country really think like Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid or Barack Obama?
Remember it was First Lady Michelle Obama who famously said, "For the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country," once she sensed that her husband's radical ideas might come to fruition. How many of us can say that the first time we were proud of our country came at age 44?
It is time we stop sugar-coating this. The progressive movement is not and never has been about simply "changing" America. The progressive movement is about dismantling America. The progressive movement is about tearing America down brick by brick. It's a sad fact that the progressives who despise America are now running it.
