Marshall's special Olympians depart Friday

Five Special Olympians from Marshall County are scheduled to leave from Cornersville this evening on their journey to Nebraska where they will compete in Team Tennessee.

The five and their sports include: Ginger Skillington, bowling; Ricardo Owens, power lifting; Cody Taylor, track; Andrew Shearer and Darion Barnhill, bocce ball, according to Sandra Holly, spokeswoman for the local participants.

They were to leave from the McDonald's restaurant on the Pulaski Highway at about 6:30 this evening and return Sunday, July 25, Holly said.

The Special Olympics are being held at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Neb. Participants are to be housed in the college dorms during the games.

From Cornersville, the participants are to go to Nashville where they board a bus for an overnight ride to Nebraska.
