Foster wins narrowly; Fagan tops Freeman

Friday, August 6, 2010

Both county clerks remain in office, but one won by a very large margin, while less than 200 voters separated the other from her challenger.

Elinor Brandon Foster was returned to the job of Circuit Court Clerk by 3,620 votes to challenger Keith Hollingsworth's 3,441, a difference of 179 votes. Foster lost in two precincts -- the second and third -- but carried the other seven by the narrowest of margins.

Daphne R. Fagan beat Nancy Freeman by a large margin in all districts (5,674 to 1,419 votes). Fagan's office has clearly been pleasing voters, who go there for their vehicle tags, marriage licenses, and business licenses. Freeman's promises of more convenient hours and Saturday morning opening were not enough to win her a significant number of votes.
