Hester Cromer Landis, 83, of Chapel Hill, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at her home near Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Landis was born in Marshall County, and was a daughter of the late John Wallace and Virginia Aline Brown Cromer. In 1994 Mrs. Landis retired after 30 years in the field of education. Her career included teaching at Draughons Business College in Nashville, Marshall County High School in Lewisburg and Forrest High School in Chapel Hill. Mrs. Cromer was a member of Rover Baptist Church and a very active member of the College Grove Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryant Ernest Landis, who died in 2000, and by two brothers, Edward Chester "Buddy" Cromer and Bernie Cromer.
Mrs. Cromer is survived by a daughter, Sherry Mazzarisi of Brick, N.J.; three grandchildren, Christine Lael, Tonya Hernandez and Bryant Niebruegge; and two great-grandchildren, Mia and Dylan Niebruegge.
Graveside services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 14, at Unionville Cemetery with Rev. Sydney Waits officiating. Burial immediately followed services.
Lawrence Funeral Home and Cremation Services was in charge of arrangements.
