Billy Spain Liggett, 89, a resident of Lewisburg, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A native of Marshall County, Mr. Liggett retired from Whirlpool as a tool-and-die worker, worked at NAPA Auto Parts, and was a 27-year veteran of the Air Force. Mr. Liggett was a member of the Fortress group, which led the American bombing attack on targets in Berlin and was cited by the President for its outstanding bombing assault on railroad marshalling yards at Munster, Germany, in October 1943. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Clatie Massey Liggett of Lewisburg. A sister-in-law and several nieces and cousins also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Liggett were conducted Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the chapel of Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home, followed by burial in Lone Oak Cemetery.
