Local teacher recognized as 'Science Educator of the Year'
A Marshall County teacher has been named "Science Educator of the Year for Grades 9-12" by the Tennessee Science Teachers Association. Dr. Elaine Huffines, chairperson of the science department and chemistry teacher at Forrest High School is the recipient of this prestigious honor. She will be recognized at the National Science Teachers Association regional conference at the Opryland Hotel in December.
The following retired teachers were honored with plaques and applause at the start of the school board's October meeting, and their years of service were announced: Kay Daughrity (37), Janet Bowden (36), Pamela Warhurst (31), Gwen Warren (31), Mary Reed (29), Becky Delk (24), Cathy Madeo (23), Mae Rambo (16), and Betty Miller (12). Miller has a total of 23 years' teaching, since she was in another system before coming to Marshall County.
Retired support staff was honored in the same way: Betty Preston (31), Shirley Whaley (29), Jacqueline Woodward (22), and Thomas Liggett (6).
Schools director Roy Dukes pointed out that this represents a total of 327 years of service to the students of Marshall County.
