Thomas Preston James Sr., age 92, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010.
Born in Marshall County, he was the son of Thomas Sheffer and Myrtle Richardson James. He taught several years in Tennessee before World War II, then serving in the U.S. Air Force and flying 39 missions over Germany as a wing gunner. He moved to Jesup, Ga. in 1950 after getting a master's degree in school administration and supervision. He was an elementary principal until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lyndal and Selwin James; a sister, Margaret James Frye; a granddaughter, Lauren Harris; and his wire of 58 years, Sara Griffin James.
He is survived by a son, Thomas P. James Jr.; a daughter, Stacy James (David) Harris; five grandsons; and, locally, a niece, Suzanne F. Warf, and nephew, Lynn Frye, of Mooresville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Jesup, with interment in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
