Robert H. "Bobby Hoss" Cartwright, 79, of Shelbyville, died Friday evening, Oct. 22, 2010, at the Heritage Medical Center after an extended illness
Born May 22, 1931, in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Robert Thomas Cartwright and Alberta Thomas Cartwright. Mr. Cartwright was a graduate of Shelbyville Central High School, was owner of Cartwright Block and Ready Mix of Shelbyville and Lewisburg, and Cartwright Trucking Co., Inc of Shelbyville. He was one of the founding directors of Peoples Bank of Bedford County and enjoyed farming, cooking his famous chili, frying fish, and cooking and pulling barbeque. He was a great friend to everyone he met and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Robert H. "Little Bobby" Cartwright and Paul Thomas "Jake" Cartwright; and brother, Robert Glynn Cartwright.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Jane Louise Gentry Cartwright; daughter, Suzy (Keith) Johnson of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Adam Johnson, Joel (Kecia) Johnson, Emily (Chris) Cartwright-White, all of Shelbyville, and Paula Cartwright Walker of Woodbury; and four great-grandchildren, Tanner and Tucker Johnson and Raven and Hunter Walker.
Funeral services were held Tuesday Oct. 26, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Cartwright, John Standford, and Mike Sudberry officiating. Burial followed in Willow Mount Cemetery with Brother Ron Dewitt ministering at the graveside service.
