Marguerite Thompson Ray, 86, departed this life on Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, in Wayne Medical Center, Waynesboro.
"Mama Ray" was born June 27, 1924, in Wayne County, the daughter of the late Robert "Bob" Andrew and Viola Mae Throgmorton Thompson. Mrs. Ray was retired from Genesco and was a homemaker. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by husband, Homer Wesley Ray; son, Walton Ray; grandson, Lonnie Allen Horton; son-in-law, Elvis Mathis; sisters, Frances Daniel, Annie F. Thompson, Nadine Lockard, and Wylodine Greeson.
Survivors include her sons, David C. Ray and Connie of Lewisburg and Jerry Wayne Ray and Kim of Waynesboro; daughter, Mable Mathis of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Michele Brown, Mitch Horton, Yolanda Creasy, Jason Ray, and Anna Ray; great-grandchildren, Eric and Adrian Brown, Abby and Kambria Creasy, Jordan and Logan Ray, Lucas and Jayden Horton; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 7, at Shackelford Funeral Home, with Donnie Kelly officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens.
