Robert Edward "Ed" Wiles, 82, of Lewisburg died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at Williamson Medical Center.
Mr. Wiles was the son of the late William Herbert and Daisy Whitehead Wiles. He attended Vanderbilt University on a football scholarship, and later attended Millsaps College where he played football and baseball. He served in the United States Army, stationed in South Korea. He was the local Ford dealer in Lewisburg for 50 years, owning Wiles Ford-Mercury. He was a member of Lewisburg First United Methodist Church, a board member of the Ford Dealer Advertising Fund, and a member and past officer of the Lewisburg Elks Lodge. He also served on the Marshal County Election Commission and was a charter member of the Marshall County Recreation Center. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed preserving the fruits of his labor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul, John Ira, James, Thomas, Clyde, Vance, Hubert, and Odell; and sisters, Lucille Turner, Ella Mae Grandi, and Janie Duvall.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gwendolyn Butler Wiles; two sons, Robert Edward "Eddie" Wiles Jr. (Janet) and Timothy Butler Wiles; daughters, Myra Wiles Bowden (Steve), all of Lewisburg, and Mary Vaughn Wiles of Columbia; two brothers, Charles Wiles of Nashville and R.L. Wiles (Edith) of Lewisburg; and one sister, Mary Wiles Fagan of Cornersville. Six grandchildren - Erin Wiles, Rob Wiles, Haley Wiles, Lyssa Wiles, Kayla Branaman, and Jenna Branaman - also survive.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 28, at the Lewisburg First United Methodist Church, followed by burial in Lone Oak cemetery.
