Alvia McKinley Dalton, 82, of Chapel Hill, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Ennis McKinley Dalton and Sally Pope Morgan. Mr. Dalton was retired from the Public Works Department of Metro Nashville with 28 years of service.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Dalton was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Smotherman Dalton; a daughter, Jean Smith; two sisters, Mamie Scalf and Pauline Baskin; and a brother, Gene Dalton.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Mae Gray of Nashville; a son, James Lee Dalton of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Erlene Young, Geraldine Dodson, Geralene Smithson and Edith Ackley, all of Lewisburg; a brother, Robert Dalton of Lawrenceburg; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 14, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Eddie Rogers officiating. Burial followed at Harris Cemetery in Marshall County.
