Obituary: Mae Nell Stough Hollingsworth
Nell Hollingsworth was born on May 17, 1931, to Mae and Roy Stough in Grand Saline, Texas. She died peacefully on Dec. 12, 2010, while recovering from lung surgery.
Nell graduated from Grand Saline High School at the age of 15 and attended North Texas State College until she married her husband of 47 years, Kaufman County District Attorney Harold Dean Hollingsworth.
Among Nell's many civic and community contributions, she was a past president and lifetime member of both the Trinity District and the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs, a lifetime master flower show judge, and a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and her daughter Susanne.
She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Hollingsworth of Dallas, Texas, and Paula Hollingsworth-Thomas and her husband, the Rev. Steve Thomas III, of Lewisburg; and her son, Harold D. "Hal" Hollingsworth II of Kaufman, Texas. Beloved grandchildren and family include Susanne's daughter, Ricca Holly Duffey and fiancÚ Jonathan Myers; Paula's children, Charles S. Thomas IV and wife Julie Thomas of Franklin and Elyse Thomas of Nashville; Hal's sons, Dean, Dylan and Jordan Hollingsworth; Cynthia's sons, Patrick and Gordon Sheehan and their father, Daniel J. Sheehan Jr.; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Kaufman Church of Christ, with the Rev. Steve Thomas III officiating.
