Copper was stolen from a cell phone tower near the south end of the county before Christmas. Chad Whitaker, an employee of Verizon Wireless, reported to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department that between Dec. 14 and 22, someone stole two two-hole copper lugs, one three-foot copper ground bar and approximately 40 feet of 10.2 copper ground wire from the Verizon tower on Charlie Thomas Road. Whitaker told deputies the damage would cost at least $2,000 to fix.

Other thefts and vandalism reported

* A Lasko tower heater, worth $85, was stolen from a residence on 5th Avenue North, after someone kicked in the front door on Dec. 22. The landlord estimated it would cost $20 to repair the lock and latchplate.

* Between 5 p.m. Dec. 21 and 6 a.m. Dec. 22, an air compressor valued at $100 was stolen from the porch of a home on West Commerce Street.

* On Dec. 17, someone passed a $100 counterfeit bill at Fairview Video Market, Cornersville Road. The clerk wrote down the tag number - 144 FBS - of the person who passed with bill.

* A Chapel Hill woman accidentally left her purse at Taco Bell on Dec. 20. When she went back to look for the purse 10 minutes later, it was gone. The victim valued the purse at $30 and said it contained $2 cash, and her driver's license, social security card, and debit card.
