Obituary: Myrtle Ruth House Garrett

Myrtle Ruth House Garrett, 89, of the Yell Community, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, in Maury Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

God called home a very special person who will be missed by many but never forgotten.

Mrs. Garrett was a native of Athens, Ala. and daughter of the late Shirley Houston and Maggie Liles House. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Yell Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby House Wall, and her loving husband of 59 years, Earl Dewey Garrett, in 1997.

She is survived by one son, Edward "Eddie" (Martha) Garrett of Lewisburg; daughter, Tavye (Boyd) Caldwell of Chapel Hill; five special grandchildren, Michael Garrett, Brian (DeEtta) Garrett, and Krystal Garrett, all of the Yell Community, Shannon Ledford Worrell (Tim) of Cornersville, and Brea (Kyle) Ledford of Chapel Hill; three stepgrandchildren, Michelle McCullough, and Justin and Joey Caldwell, all of Chapel Hill; and three great-grandchildren, Bailee and T.J. Worrell and Landon Garrett; and stepgreat-grandchild, Lindsey McCullough. She is also survived by a loving niece, Shirley Ruth Duggin of Manchester, as well as several great-nephews and a great-niece.

The family will be at London Funeral Home Friday until the funeral hour for visitation.

Funeral services will be conducted by Hubert Raines of Nashville at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, from the chapel of London Funeral Home with burial to follow in Lone Oak Cemetery.

Her pallbearers will be Clay Bates, Tim Worrell, Kyle Leisman, Otto Briggler III, Tim Ledford, Tom Griffin, David Richardson, and Harold Cox.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Glenn, Wayne Owen, J.B. Jakubek, David Duggin, Jason Duggin, Ronnie Duggin, Steve Bates, Ron Ledbetter, T.B. Mencer, Ralph Barr, Jack Adams, Ralph Hall, and Forrest Barrom.

For those who may wish, donations in her memory may be made to the Yell Church of Christ or the American Breast Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers.
