Man accused of statutory rape

Friday, January 14, 2011

A Culleoka man was arrested Wednesday charged with aggravated statutory rape after a 17-year-old girl and her mother told Marshall County Sheriff's Deputy Layne Worsham what happened.

Christopher Daniel Roberts, 35, was being held in lieu of $10,000 at noon Thursday. He is due in Marshall County General Sessions Court on Jan. 25.

Roberts coached the 13-14 year-old girls All-Star softball team to a place in the state tournament in 2007, the last time local sports authorities saw him coach. Roberts is not an employee of the county schools.

The crime is alleged to have happened at Roberts' home on Demastus Road "on or about" Jan. 6, according to the warrant sworn out by Detective Bob Johnson on Wednesday.
