Kayla Harmon of Lewisburg, the daughter of Patti and Thomas Harmon, has accepted a Dean's Award from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Kayla will graduate from Marshall County High School in 2011, where she is active in student council, softball and BETA club. She plans to major in sports medicine. Xavier University is a private university providing a liberal arts education in the Catholic tradition.

In an effort to extend the outreach of the Tennessee Career Center, the Marshall County Memorial Library and the TN Career Center in Lewisburg have established a "Career Corner" in the library. The Career Corner will be manned from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Thursday and 11:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, to give job seekers instruction on Resume/Cover Letter Writing, Job Search Methods, and other Career Center resources. Girl Scout Cookies will be sold in Marshall County soon. The Cookie Program helps Scouts learn decision making, goal setting, money management, people skills, and business ethics. Starting Monday, Jan. 10, New Lake Road will be closed at the spillway of New Lake for approximately two months, due to construction of a new bridge. The Marshall County Highway Department apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

Gently used children's clothing, toys and accessories will be available from the Angel's Closet at Heaven Sent Children Inc., 307 N. Walnut St, Murfreesboro, twice a month.
