Sunday, January 30, 2011

A Saturday night shooting death at a Seventh Avenue South apartment house is being investigated by Lewisburg Police as a homicide.

"As a result of the shooting one person was pronounced dead at the scene," Detective Sgt. David Henley reported early Sunday, later identifying the victim as Ronald Shelton, 58.

Henley's announcement was labeled "homicide."

Shelton lived alone at 112 7th Ave. So., in what's known as the old Fox Motel, a house with apartments in the back.

"Detectives are actively pursuing leads and updates will be released as warranted," Henley said of the 10:45 p.m. Saturday shooting death.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning in Nashville, the detective sergeant said.

Shelton's family was notified Sunday, he said.

"The Lewisburg Police Department appreciates the public's continued support," the detective sergeant said. "Anyone with information relating to this or any other crime please call Crime Stoppers at (931) 359-4867 or the Lewisburg Police Criminal Investigations Division at (931) 359-3800."
