Geography Bee winners know where it's at

After a nail-biting round of tiebreaker questions, Ivy Donley emerged as the winner at Lewisburg Middle School's 8th Annual Geography Bee.

Donley, an 8th grader, received a $100 savings bond from First Commerce Bank, and may now compete at the state level, just as she did after winning the Bee last year.

Cheyenne Seay, 2nd, got a $75 savings bond, and Peyton Brown, 3rd, received a $50 savings bond.

Aubrey Flagg, associate professor of geography at Columbia State Community College, was the official judge. Geography teacher Melanie Wiles was the moderator, assisted by Suzanne Lynn, scorekeeper, and Jeff Morton, timekeeper.

This year 10 contestants were selected in a preliminary bee. In addition to the winners, Tygr Taylor, Ryan Rogers, Sophie Raffo, Jacob Ray, Brianna Clary, McKenzie Anderson, and Michael Morton competed.

Wiles was pleased to have more boys competing this year, and the LMS students crowding the auditorium cheered the contestants enthusiastically.
