Frances Vestal Brintle, 100, of Barstow, Calif., formerly of Cornersville, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at her residence.
Mrs. Brintle was a native of Maury County, and daughter of the late Maury Petway Sr. and May Eugenia Sowell Vestal. She taught school for many years at Cornersville High School and retired while teaching in the Davidson County School System. Mrs. Brintle was a writer of children's stories and had several published. She was also a gifted artist, sharing her paintings with many of her former students. She was a member of Cornersville First Baptist Church and did missionary work in the United States, as well as abroad when she was in her 90s.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Garland Brintle Sr.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Hooper of Barstow, Calif. and Mary Ellen Doggett of The Villages, Fla.; four sons, William Oscar Brintle and James Garland Brintle Jr., both of Las Vegas, Nev., Joseph V. Brintle of Nashville, and Robert "Bob" E. Brintle of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and three half-sisters, Nancy Crowder of Lewisburg, and Betty Blackwood and Kathy Ingram, both of Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 8, from the chapel of Cornersville Funeral Home with burial to follow in Beechwood Cemetery.
