Lottie Mae Jones Chapman, 90, of Cartersville, Ga., died peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Chapman was born in Shelbyville on Aug. 12, 1920, and was the daughter of Ilie Albert and Beulah Belle Haskins Jones. She was educated in the public schools of Marshall County and worked for the telephone company during World War II. She was of the Baptist faith, and had been a Cartersville resident since 1972.
Preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James David "J.D." Chapman, she leaves one daughter, Donna Chapman Hicks and her husband Roger Lee Hicks III of Marietta, Ga.; two granddaughters, Emily Catherine Hicks of Kennesaw, Ga. and Barbara Allison Hicks of Boston, Mass. Lottie is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Ann Jones Robinson of Santa Teresa, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She made many lifelong friends, and she was very proud of her family members who served in the military: her husband, James, and all his brothers; her brothers Everett, Wilburn, and Albert Jones; her sister, Mattie Belle Jones Duncan and husband Talmadge W. "Ted" Duncan; her nephew, Jon Michael Jeter; and his father, Wilbur "Bill" Jeter.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, she was an avid baker, enjoyed cooking, entertaining, and loved welcoming family and friends into their home. She was a wonderful homemaker. She is so loved and will be dearly missed.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 2, in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home, Cartersville, Ga., with Chaplain Keith Guyton officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memory Gardens.
