William Mark Whitaker, 90, of Petersburg passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at Lincoln Medical Center.
He was a native of Marshall County, and the son of the late Holland Benjamen and Mary Gillespie Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker was retired from the Department of OEO, a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving during World War II and a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the American Legion, the Sons of the American Revolution and former member and president of the Petersburg Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Cunningham Whitaker of Petersburg; son, Bill Whitaker and wife Brenda of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter, Bette Harris and husband Hoyt of Lafayette, La.; grandson, Hunter Harris; sister, Sara Daves of Murfreesboro; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Feb. 7, at the First Presbyterian Church in Petersburg with Rev. Ed Keith and Rev. Phil Leftwich officiating. Burial followed in Old Orchard Cemetery.
Higgins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
