The Marshall County Girl Scouts will kick off their cookie sales Sunday, Feb. 13, through Sunday, March 6, with their booth locations at various businesses in Lewisburg, Chapel Hill and Cornersville. Marshall County Babe Ruth League sign-up dates are Saturdays, Feb. 12 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays, Feb. 13 and 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. For any questions call Connie Mills at 931-637-2454.

The Marshall County Memorial Library, the South Central Human Resource Agency, and the Internal Revenue Service offer free tax preparation for individuals whose yearly income is under $49,000. The service is provided by appointment only on Tuesdays from noon to 7 p.m. at the Library. Call 931-309-6162 for an appointment.

The Marshall County Retired Teachers Association is offering $1,000 scholarships to students graduating from high school and planning a teaching career. They are also offering $1,000 scholarships to college juniors and seniors who commit to entering the teaching profession. Applications are available at the high school guidance offices; deadline is April 15.

A special committee of the Columbia State Alumni Association has been formed to review all nominations and choose the recipient of the Alumnus of the Year Award. The honor is granted once a year to a Columbia State graduate who has met criteria established in four key areas: accomplishments at Columbia State, career achievements, personal advancement and service to their community. The Town of Chapel Hill Board of Mayor and Aldermen will hold their regular monthly meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at the Town Hall, 2202 Unionville Road.
