Obituary: Jennie Maude Fowler Luna

Jennie Maude Fowler Luna, 86, of Athens, Ala., died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

Mrs. Luna was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Lewisburg, to Herman Buel Fowler and Hettie Sue Edwards Fowler. She was a member of Tanner Church of Christ and was a retired nurse from Merihil Nursing Home in Lewisburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her stepfather, Baxter Reed; two sons, Douglas Farrell Childress and Donald Clay Childress; and two brothers, William Lloyd Fowler and Edward Fowler; half-brothers, Billy and Phil Fowler; and half-sister, Margaret Cobb Morton.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Scarbrough of Athens, Ala., Teresa Luna Daws and Mary Ann Carter, both of Lewisburg, Alice Faye Rowland and husband Larry of Lewisburg, Martha Ray Proctor and husband Larry of Holly, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 27, at McConnell Funeral Home with Charles Thompson, Ross Clemmons, and Henry Carter officiating. Burial was in Huntsville Memory Gardens.

The pallbearers were Gary Connor, Walter McGlockin, Tom Hines, Elliot Agee, Robert Nelms and Hugo Adams.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Tanner Church of Christ.
